It's Over... It's Over.
We’ve whined, groveled, gotten angry, and made an absolute mockery of all this craziness that has pervaided this industry over the past decade. It all seems so surreal in hindsight, almost as if this wasn’t possible.
I suppose if you avoided the fallout, if you were still in a cubicle or receiving a paycheck it didn’t seem so strange, but on the outside looking in, seeing this industry slowly go insane amost doesn’t seem real. And now we’re drifting into pure AI absurdity.
Who knows how long there’s even need to write code, or make games from the ground up, or how long our thoughts even have consequence. Things sure are ramping up fast, and it’ll drive you mad if you think about all these wasted years, that in the final moments of humanity some took it on themselves to outcast and silence others. But I truly am tired of beating this dead horse.
In this moment, we still have a bit of runway, we still have a bit of time to maybe do some cool stuff and make a bit of an impact. Who knows?
Anyhow, I really want to transition towards more traditional blogs and stop making a fool of ourselves, so just going to say a little bit about what’s going on with SeaCrit.
I’m burned out, but I don’t think too bad, and there are just a few nasty things we gotta clean up that are in overly complex systems like movement, and once we polish them up a bit, I think we’ll finally be moving on to making this a game!
So tonight, just knockin’ a lot of stuff on the TODO list, giving ourselves a clean bill of goods and moving forward we start getting all this crazy stuff in the game!
I think it’s ok if we take a day or two right now to just let this all wash over us. This crazed dash the past month to get this to this point is still taking its toll on us, and as evidenced by this blog, this crazed industry has done a number on us too.
I don’t know how to feel about this crazed war finally coming to an end. On one side, cool, I guess we won… kind of?
No one won…
But at least the bleeding is finally stemming. It’s all so sad. So much damage, LONG LASTING DAMAGE, has been done to so many people. We’re all so vapid and ungrateful now, and many of us will never get these wasted years back, even if we had shelter and a paycheck, this has all been so meaningless and mundane and stupid. What do we have to show for the past 10 years?
Decay… regrets…
But it’s not all bad! We’re on the threshold of a dream right now.
My brain is telling me to link this, this is the perfect song for this blog
But my idiot heart would rather be optimistic and listen to some MOODY FUCKING BLUES!
THE MOODY BLUES HAVE THE CRAZIEST ROCK SONGS GUYS! THEY SING ABOUT RIDING SEA SAWS AND HAVING WEIRD DREAMS, AND TIDES AND CANDLES N' SHIT
HEY REMEMBER THAT TIME WE HAD A CONVERSATION!? WE SHOULD MAKE A ROCK SONG ABOUT THAT!
OR HOW ABOUT THAT NIGHT YOU DID THE LAUNDRY AND WE SLEPT ON FRESH SHEETS THAT WENT SO FUCKING BITCHEN'
REMEMBER THAT FUCKING TIME WE RODE THAT SEA SAW LIKE MOTHER FUCKERS
REMEMBER THAT ONE TIME I WASN’T SURE ABOUT SOMETHING AND HAD TO AKS YOU SOMETHING, HOLY FUCK WE GONT INTO SOME WILD SHIT BACK IN THE DAY
BITCH, REMEMBER THAT FUCKING TIME IS WAS TUESDAY, AND A FUCKING AFTERNOON, REMEMBER HOW FUCKIN' NUTS THAT WAS!?
I HOPE THAT AS YOU”RE ROCKING OUT TO ALL THESE JAMS YOU DON’T GET ROCKED RIGHT THE FUCK OUT OF YOUR SEAT AND THAT YOU’RE SITTING COMFORTABLY
Been a crazy blog all through these crazy years, but I like to think we’re only getting started! There’s a few core notions of gamedev that we’ve touched on over these crazed blathers, and one of those is “THE CEILING”
https://illtemperedtuna.itch.io/the-seacrit-fish-game/devlog/583251/the-ceiling
And I think we’re only beginning to crack through it! All these core systems, the itemization, the AI, the abilities, and now we’re sewing up the performance and builds! We truly are on the threshold of our dream. The game IS NOT there quite yet, but I think we might be there soon, after all these years of going crazy wondering if the game would ever be fun, I now find that no matter what we throw into the game it just feels fun now. And the trick to that is to just make everything awesome, so that no matter what you put in the game, it feels fun, and if it’s not fun, you either gotta fix it so it is, or gut the damn thing.
Not the landmark blog entry I was kinda hoping for, but I do think this is a landmark moment, it’s ok if we don’t spend 2 hours on this blog entry to imortalize this turning of the tide, the letting go of the grudges and the transgressions.
This is the moment we get to shift gears, we don’t have to be an Ill Tempered Tuna any more, we can be our old self, not motivated by anger, but by optimisms, because we’re excited by what we get to share with gaming, by the sort of positive and amazing industry we might be able to take part in, knowing that those who seek to smother and gatekeep are rapidly losing their powers over us.
I’ll say it again, this cavern may have been the best thing to ever happen to SeaCrit, painful as it was for us. We were fighting for our lives, we were fighting the machine, we fought with every fiber of our being when we had it in us over these years, and we are better devs for it. That’s what I’m telling myself anyway to stay sane. We probably could have become better, stronger, and faster in much better conditions, but let’s just go with this for now so we can stay sane.
Maybe we did regress due to the madness of the day, but we didn’t regress as much as others, we are the one eyed king in the world of the blind right now I believe. We have this silly fish game made by someone who has no idea how to code, but hey it could be worse!
Ok, enough blathers, gonna fart around on the internets a little bit, then we’re going to lock in performance setups for low end devices and start pecking at making this an actual game.
We have so much cool shit to get online! My head is kinda spinning. Can’t think about it too much, it starts to get intimidating, just gotta start getting stuff in the game!
HEY M*THER SHITTERS, REMEMBER THAT TIME WE SET A CANDLE AFLAME?! THAT SHIT WAS LIT BRO!
What happened to us? We used to be capable of such amazing works... We need to get our act together and get back to making great art again.Get SeaCrit
