Not Quite Dead Yet
Just a mundane blog today, gotta save our energies for the game. What are words anyhow? Games gotta do the talking at some point.
Had quite a bit of scattered thoughts accumulating as we took a bit of a break, wasn't planned, but we really needed some time off. We had the usual health stuff, some burn out that needed letting go of, but how many times do we have to blather about that?
We played a good bit of POE 2! It was nice to just let go of the project for a little bit and enjoy this medium of gaming. And it was kinda bittersweet as most anything I do these days always is because i'm just so damned melodramatic any more.
What a great game! And GGG are so kind and accommodating to their community. And it's kinda driven me sick to just see them take it on the chin over and over again from these whiney, shitty, entitled gamers.
It's not just the development of games that's gone rancid, the gamers are just awful any more. No one gets excited for stuff, no one is ever just grateful or optimistic or happy about friggin' anything.
OK, ENOUGH NEGATIVITY!
I don't want this blog to be about negativity, I want to build ourselves up as best we can before returning to the slog.
There are a billion and a half things that need doing, and we're spread thin as ever and the future is as uncertain as ever, but I like to think the game is pretty playable!
Who knows what the future holds, but I did find a new IDE editor called Rider!
I made some random comment on Youtube about how Rider was a monthly fee and someone replied that the non commercial license (which we qualify for since we're broke as shit, OH BOY) is totally free.
And I spend like a full month customizing Visual Studio and dealing with that awful hotkey manager, and bugs and all sorts of craziness, and I ALMOST didn't make the jump, because i'm so burned out and who wants to customize a new IDE to get the right text and colors and hotkeys up and running just to be not quite as familiar with a new piece of software when you're already burned out and running on fumes?
So we opened up rider, kinda sorta migrated our hotkeys, and I gotta say, more than ever I'm just so confused by this world. Rider is FAR AND AWAY the superior options, the hotkeys are a JOY to set up, to iterate on, to customize, and there's lots of nice little bits of functionality that helps you to optimize your code. Like for instance it'll put a little color swatch next to your color if you do something like new Color (1, .25f, .25f, 1f), showing you directly in the inspector what the actual color is. You don't have to guess!
That is a tiny tiny fragment of new functionality. But it's not all sunshine and rainbows, there is MUCH to become familiar with, and so many hotkeys to migrate and try new thigs with and new options and settings to finagle.
Ugh
And the world is still chaos and everyone is still waiting for the dust to settle, and everyone still has the knives at each others' throats and people are still wound up tight and everyone is still miserable and pointing fingers and making a huge fuss, and I'm certainly no better than anyone else, but maybe we are because we can at least admit some fault darn it.
So does that make us a pretentious fuck?
Probably, I mean, I am a pretentious fuck! That's why i'm making my own video games!
Rofl, what were we blathering about again?
Doesn't matter. Nothin' matters. Only thing that matters is health seems to be a bit better and I don't feel burned out on the project, so hopin' tomorrow it's back to it!
No expectations, no pressures, at least I'm trying my best to stave them, they will always riddle my brain until somehow we break through, no point harpin on it.
It's easy to think about the past with longing. But we've got a bit of life in us yet. We haven't completely squandered it. Still got a little fight in us, still got a little ambition and excitement to create some cool stuff that I hope people will enjoy. Still optimistic we can make some cool stuff, push the envelope a bit, and have something of value to contribute to this world despite ourselves :)
