Quick Little Ditty
God damn do I love this song.
This popped up on my YouTube suggestions and I figured fook it! Let's make a blog!
How much have we regressed? How much more spiteful and resentful have we all become the past decade. It's fucking gross.
Music is like a time machine, reminds you of the good times. Back when things were relatively sane, when there was purpose and adults in the drivers seat. And great artists making great works.
Anyhow! Recovering from a MONSTER of a dev session yesterday, only a couple of you out there watch my dev videos, but Imma link it anyway, cuz hot damn yesterday was incredible. Nearly had a nervous breakdown trying to close out the session and bug after bug popped up, but we soldiered through it and whooped some ass! 16 hours of grueling pain!
No coffee! Just God given autism XD
Yeah, I linked 'em in the last blog, Imma link 'em again damn it!
As for tonight, thinking of doing maybe a touch more work. I want to move on to bonuses and polish them up. I've got this huge network of scriptable Objects, some of them are totally broken placeholders, some of them kinda work, some don't work at all. Some are fun, and others aren't fun. Now that I think about it, I think i'll add a new trigger that will fire any time the data is accessed without a bool "locked in" being set.
This way we'll easily be able to tell which bonuses need a pass to see if they're sane.
I'm going to try to be heavy with the cuts. No need for 40 pretty ok bonuses, better to just have 15 or so really good ones that are legit fun.
Holy shit, I thought we had maybe 40 or so bonuses, we have SEVENTY FUCKING FOUR. I keep forgetting how much friggin’ content we’ve made.
I'll explain one of the bonuses just for funsies. "Enchanter". This is a bonus that if one of your items has the mod (or if you buy it from a shop, I need to decide which origins each bonus derives from, sometimes both! Sometimes rarely found in the shop, common from a specific fish type). So anyway Enchanter is a bonus that allows you to get… ANOTHER BONUS!
And just typing this I totally had a thought for another modifier, I NEED TO STOP COMING UP WITH COOL SHIT WE HAVE TO FINISH THE GAME. Imagine a “WIZARD’S” Ring that gives you a RANDOM bonus. It would be STUPID rare, and every time you gain 500 gold or something you would be given a random bonus, maybe I could throw in some unique bad bonuses like curses to spice things up! I’m adding it to my TODO (For the future) list!
But anyway, the way enchanter works, is every time you equip a new ring, you get a permanent bonus level added to “Chargers” which allows you to charge your attacks faster. Which is pretty cool!
It’s kinda like Brotato if you’ve heard of that game. Lots of very satisfying and powerful upgrade mechanics that feed into other bonuses. It’s like progression calculus.
I'd much rather come up with a few really cool ones that I know will fit the emerging play of the game, than try to implement a mass of old mechanics that i thought up on a whim over the past couple years.
There's a lot to do, but at the same time, i no longer fear "How do I make this fun"? The game just bleeds fun, whatever I throw on the screen it's pretty neat to bounce off it and bat the crap out of it.
These enemies have really turned into pinatas! On a whim I made it so that when fish get closer to gobble size, the hefty bone I made that inflates fish, can be inverted to make them sickly. I call it the "Scurvy Scale". Lol.
You know, this whole industry is burning, and AI has driven everyone insane and gamedev has really lost its identity of late, but these days I feel as though the tides have shifted.
I don't feel like the crazy kook any more. I feel like SeaCrit is this lone island of sanity and fun in this industry that has gone batshit insane, and lost all knowledge of what it even means to make video games. So many things diverting from that goal.
Mind is firing in a million directions per usual, my memory is shit so I always try to save this big thought that was going to tie the blog together and I type fervently fast, run into an adjective I don't like, try to think of something better, and poof it's gone.
It was probably tarded anyway XD.
These are just blathers in the wind anyhow. Game is going well, hoping we can give a boot to the ass of this industry, because it sure as heck needs it!
Did this blog go too far? We made it 3 damned blog posts and already we're going back to being a jackass!
I get a little pumped up after 16 hour days. only got 4 hours of sleep last night after an all nighter. These sessions really pump you full of adrenaline for extended time and it messes with your head.
Would love to keep the work going, but just takin' it easy, popped a little melatonin hoping that'll help us get a nap in and then we can continue slaving our life away.
CAN'T WAIT TO SHOW THIS GAME OFF TO THE WORLD OF UNGRATEFUL, PETULANT HATERS.
OH BOY! SO MUCH TO LOOK FORWARD TO!
