Disarm You With a Smile
Never in human history has weakness been such a powerful weapon. Interesting times we have the fortune to live through.
Battles are no longer fought in a bloodstained battlefield, they are fought in the arena of ideas. The greatest armor is pettiness, self righteousness, smugness.
Ideas are weapons.
If you can convince yourself that everyone outside your sphere is wrong, if you can then silence them, if you can remove the microphone from their grasp and force others to live in your echo chamber, you can remain in power indefinitely.
That's the theory anyhow. In practice we get unavoidable decay, division, we get emperors with no clothes lording over empires destined to fall into the dirt. A world where no one wins.
I just find this usual dysfunction of communication so tiring. And I won't grandstand and say this or that side isn't immune to it. We are ALL prone to resisting facts that disarm ourselves. Our righteous anger is our greatest weapon, our notions of superiority. All the grit and determination to grab life by the balls and set to work stems from here.
I think the trick if you actually want to create great works, if you actually want to build a sensible, moral center, is to not overindulge in your own Kool Aide.
And to that end we will continue to try to see things from multifaceted angles, understand that no one is necessarily "good" or "bad", we are are simply taken by the various delusions of the day. We are all pawns in this great game we play.
There is a reason we call it "The game of life", cuz everyone be playing their little games, omitting their little lies and spouting their white ones. Are we fighting for the greater good? Are we seeking only to enrich ourselves? Even we deceive our brain what our true intentions are! Sure makes this life interesting to live.
ANYWHO! Enough esoteric rambles.
I WAS going to call this blog "Time for a sea change" because i've decided it's time for us to start getting everything in the game and to stop polishing random systems that aren't even in the darned game yet! And I had this other realization, having quality promo videos, whether I like it or not are just as important if not MORE important than having a good game! So it seems silly that we develop things for 8 years straight while ignoring the all important aspect of marketing.
And one thing I like about putting one of everything in the game, is it means all the mechanics and systems will be very dense. There's this fad on Twitter "Show your game in 15 seconds" So one of my goals is to set things up in a way that I can show off swapping, show off the charge system, show off picking up a new item, and using that item to do cool stuff, dash out of the water a bit, do some fast waveswimming between some floating obstacles and finish by chatting with an NPC telling the usual dad joke. Speaking of, I just realized I need to make a custom NPC specifically for this promo material, adding it now!
