*RING*ing in the new day
We're reachin' deep into the Tull, THEY'RE NOT ALL GOING TO BE BANGERS DAMN IT!
https://illtemperedtuna.itch.io/the-seacrit-fish-game/devlog/334747/rings-are-on...
Been over 2 years since I first got rings in. Most people finish entire games in that period of time. Honestly, I don't know wtf I'm doing as the time flies, OH WELL! No point harping on it!
So I've decided that rather than working on shields and armor I'd start a little smaller and work on those tiny little items, RINGS!
Rings will have a small chance to drop from ALL enemies unlike other items, so it's a nice non commital thing to work on that I can implement RIGHT NOW globally to all fish! And they're the perfect item to do rapid testing of various upgrades as they are usable by both melee and ranged and the setup for them is super quick.
So starting tomorrow, we begin the long journey into making actual gameplay content! I'm simultaneously burned the f*ck out, and excited to get this show on the road. Work last week was a little light, but still SO GOOD! I'm very happy with all the movement now, from wave swimming to jumping out of water, to basic combat movement. I think it's all gelling and coming together. I'm super proud of what we've accomplished! We've bashed our head against the wall for years to get this far with nothing but stubbornness to keep us moving forward.
SO MANY cool things to get online, in fact I think the hardest thing is going to be to restrain myself from going overboard. I've got like 5000 cool ideas for new item mechanics and upgrades and items that I want to try. I actually have to stop myself from brainstorming more ideas because now that all the systems are online and I understand how to do this stuff, the potential for all this cool stuff is right there in front of us!
Ok, before I get too far ahead of myself, there are a few tiny things to clean up and tweak. Items fall too slowly when fish drop them. Item dialogue info is really janky and doesn't play well with scene overlays.
Oh! And making new builds went super well, did I mention that in the last blog? Things are full steam ahead! Anyway, didn't get a ton of work today, so i figured i'd do a little blather in the blog, get it out of my system today, plan the work day so that tomorrow when we're ready to be productive we can hop right into Unity and get to work!
So... Unity drama. I told myself I wouldn't jinx it by talking about it anywhere in the open, but I've noticed I'm not banned on the new Unity forums so I'm back to posting about Unity again! We'll see how long I last before I'm banned again XD, I'm not so good at keeping my opinions to myself in open discussion boards, probably why i'm always over here in my corner rambling to myself!
It's strange days. What is gamedev culture moving forward? What's considered Kosher to discuss in 2024? Who's next on the chopping block for the blood thirsty mobs?
Is this industry healing? Can we come together to make good games again? Do we just pretend like half this world didn't do everything in their power to suppress, demean, cancel, and treat like absolute garbage the other half while acting like the moral superiors?
Deep breath.
I don't know how things move forward. I do know a lot of really petty people lived really high on the hog the past several years while everything decent and good in this world went to absolute shit and they pat one another on the back. I also realize it's not their fault they were raised to be abject, child retards. You cannot blame someone who was never given the tools to build character for growing stunted and petulant.
Let's take another deep breath.
Let's channel our energy into something positive. Let's work to make SeaCrit awesome tomorrow.
The best revenge is to live well and make ravenous murder fish for the world to enjoy.
Ok, I was just fucking with you shits. ALL JETHRO TULL SONGS ARE BANGERS.
YEAH I'M LINKING BAKER ST. MUSE
