Gearin' Up!
Just had an awesome little sit down with the project! I updated amplify shader and suddenly my materials are behaving much closer to how they should be and i think i'll be getting better looking assets in the future!
More importantly I was just messing around fighting some fish and HOLY SHIT. THE GAME IS FUN!
I think it is anyway, maybe i'm easily amused. But there is a much more defined "flow" now, that emerged when i ditched the dual wield axes and added the shield weapon as the default starting weapon. So now you go into bite when you need to heal, and the shield is more versatile, allowing you to stun, damage, and mitigate damage in many ways. The weapons don't feel arbitrary any more. Then you layer in the items and the upgrades and you start to have emerging builds and strategies.
Like, it's becoming a fucking game people! It's gonna be BITCHEN! (I hope)
Then again, all creators view their creations with a bit of a gleam in their eye, so who knows, I might just be retarded.
I truly believe just a couple days of finagling and this demo is going to be worth putting out soon will show hints of the grand plan.
And that's only the beginning! Once things start coming online it'll be new upgrades, new enemies, new areas, more polish, more awesomeness! Who knows if and when people find this project and start enjoying it and want to play more, and if we'll build a following, but in the meantime, I'm back to enjoying the solo development and trudging forward in this cave, and that makes all the difference in the world.
It would be nice to have the validation of knowing people think the game is cool in the here and now. But in a world of madness where only the shallow, vapid lapdogs find success. Maybe it's an honor to be floundering about the mud.
It would have been nice to have some have had a bit more support along the way, but it's not necessary and I think that's the difference between our little nook of the ocean and these big funded, astrotrfed triple A studios full of everyone expecting the big machine to hand victory to them and to coddle them.
No one's coming to save us 'round here, we're fighting for survival, and it's up to us to sink or swim. That accountability and weight strengthened us up and made us strong gamedevs.
Forged in fire, m*ther fuckers.
We're happy to push forward with just our solitary faith, Damn the torpedoes.
I'm so fucking pumped for the future of this project. It's been a crazy journey, we were stubborn as shit and we suffered a long road getting this far. But it really seems to be coming together.
Soon...
we turn this fuckin' beat around
So much decay in this world. 50 years ago if we'd behave as asinine as we do, we'd have gotten an ass whoopin'. The greatest generaiton didn't tolerate this stupid shit, they knew the stakes. Their kids didn't have it hard, but they still imparted some level of gratitude and standards in their kids.
We're like 5 generations deep into this Versailles brain rot decadence, don't know their ass from a hole in the ground ungrateful dumb fucked, participation trophy having, candy ass generation.
And here's the remarkable part: with all these billions of people on the planet, if only .01% of us are able to put the axe to the gind, but our ass and get competent at something, that would still leave THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of people to man the levers of society in a mature and sensible way. But all the ungrateful DUMB FUCKS have to throw themselves in the way of people doing their damned job because other people succeeding and working had has somewhere along the line become fucking offensive to these crabs in a bucket pieces of shit.
