Some Revelations
Doing a quick blog between work sessions! Got 3 hours in, pretty shitty bit of work, but did a little meditating and I had some revelations that I think will make the game better.
1. Swap weapon and change fishtype should be reversed. Right now if you tap the swap button you change between ranged and melee, and as such, I never find myself ever changing weapons (holding swap button for 1 second) because the differences between the weapon types is more nuanced. I think it's just going to be all around better if we make it so the class swap requires more investment, and being ranged or melee will have a lot more meaning and players will specialize in one over the other per play session this way.
2. The starting secondary weapon for melee is dual axes and it's way too much like the starting bite, they're essentially identical except that bites allow for lifetap and axes just do a tad more damage. I think it'll be way cooler if I swap out this weapon for the sword and shield, which has a lot more interesting differences.
3. This is a great excuse for me to add the block mechanic i've always wanted to get in, where if the player charges their attack on sword and board, they will do a block that reduces all incoming damage for a second and plays a block animation.
I'm also stewing on the idea of maybe having certain attacks with certain weapons giving exp for specific skills. It's probably too complex, but it sounds fun in my head... something to think about in the future.
