Whew, so much to stress about
The world's falling to pieces, the gaming industry is torn apart amidst accusations of racist bigotry from all sides, corporations have become incompetent and destroyed by falling into unfruitful venture capital.
In short we're all doomed. I try to engage online, but I often wonder if doing so is stupid. It's like how much do you put yourself on the chopping block trying to save western civilization from commies and grifters and activists on all sides. EVERYONE seems like a grifter, EVERYONE feels like they're playing their own little political game to enrich themselves.
We'll just continue to stew here in this cave while everyone above fights over the table scraps.
What can you do?
WHAT CAN YOU DOooooo oooooooooooooooo. With all these brats like that that are always on your back, what can you looo ooooose?Anyhow! Strange time to be alive, we're all waking from this terrible nightmare and everything is on fire and we're like... well this isn't sustainable, but everyone's gone so soft no one is willing to do f*ck all about it. And we're just over here neckbearding out like an annoying neckbeard and the world keeps spinning.
I miss the 90's.
ANYWAY! Stumbled on a volumentric lighting solution on twitter and I was like, OH DAMN that could maybe make my project look AWESOME. I've been wanting to find some fog/ volumetric solution for a while, and figured even though it wasn't cheap, it was worth a shot to see if it can help validate all these years of work (more than I care to admit).
I'm a little worried about performance, but it dawned on me i could add a very simple script to the fog that disables it on touch devices, or does a check on framerate and disables it if its below a certain threshold. Lots of options.
There are always BILLIONS of things to stress about at a given time. Whether its your project or how the world thinks you just an annoying neckbeard for noticing the world is going to hell and for giving a damn about it. It would have been so much more comfortable to just accept this decline and stay at the table with all the cool kids enjoying the nightly outings with friends and coworkers at the fancy sushi bars and going to the polite society GDC conferences and rubbing elbows with all the very nice and in crowd group who never rock the boat, and who have watched quietly as this industry has fallen into insanity.
Try to keep some perspective. Life was really bad just a century ago, we've got it pretty good even if we're in a cave. But you do see a lot of injustice in this world, and a lot of cowards and backstabbers mooching everything up as they enjoy the fruits of everyone else's labors. Take everything for granted as they drive the ship into the bridge post.
Bleh.
Gonna try to get the fog in today, will edit into this post if it looks cool. Will also edit into this post if it looks like crap. Then hopefully we still have some energy to do some spawn section level design.
Truth be told we're a little burned out right now, feeling a little under the weather, but I think we'll get some decent work done today.
I don't know what the future holds, this world sucks, always has, but there's a special kind of dysfunction clouding the world right now. Lots of lies and deceptions and sunk cost to a lot of people who think they're righteous who are holding knives to everyone else's throats. F*ck it, we're letting ourselves get too distracted. If we get too distracted this project implodes and we never get a chance to make things better. Best thing we can do is try to tune out this insanity as best we can and try to make a decent game for people to enjoy.
