Tokyo Vice
We're gonna force our way through the backdoor of this sh*t gaming industry M*ther Fuckers! If you're not watching Tokyo vice, go watch it!
Love this show, been getting into it the past couple weeks and almost done with season one. There's this scene where these two characters who work at a newspaper are pissed because there was this fantastically written article that they were hoping would have an impact on this world, expose truth, spur some good, but it's put in the back of the paper and because of the corruption of the paper, and the tribalism and all the BS in the world, no one's going to read it.
It's so comforting to see this message elsewhere. To see that other people "get it". That everything is chaos, everything is corrupt, everything is buried under bullshit, and most people are just drones flying about their day living their lives not give a damn. The vast majority of people are just in it for themselves, and if they have the balls to do anything at all of meaning, it's assholes corrupting the world for their own enrichment. It's all so messed up. And in this chaos most everyone thinks they're the good guys fighting the good fight. It's a strange existence living in this mad world.
So we're an inconsequential neckbeard f*cked off in some cave rotting away somewhere. At least we're not feeding the beast.
So much of this world is just the corrupt leading the blind, the culling of the meek. Everything is broken, the markets are closed, the search results are all stiff armed, ratings are inflated and bought and paid for. The audience has been stupefied and had their agency stifled hypnotized by app stores and curated phone news pages. We don't know how to use our brains any more, we've surrendered to our phones, we tune into YouTube and news, and Facebook and jack into the matrix to be told what to be outraged by, to find out what new flavor of outrage is out there so we know what to be offended by, what product to buy to stay in society's good graces.
We've become so mentally underdeveloped, we've outsourced our principles, we've become pathetic shells of drone consumers feeding into a human centipede of self sustaining decadence and mediocrity among the crooks and liars.
Been engaging a bit more with various communities that I had thought were part of this culture war movement, but more and more i'm realizing most everyone is a comfortable grifter that stands for nothing. Everyone in any position of priviledge just plays these games. It's all so tired. On the bright side, the game is getting better. I'm as emboldened as ever to push forward and try to make a game that isn't crap.
ANYWAY!
Gonna try to get a little work done today... or not. At the very least I think i'm going to do a pass on lighting and environment looks for the game. See if I can pump of the graphics somehow. I feel like they're a bit weak right now, not sure why, gotta look into it. I think it has to do with the large mesa rocks i'm using, they're just not looking great and they're everywhere. Oh well. Not going to invest a ton of time into it, but I do want to keep the momentum going and try to get a new demo done by the end of the week, complete with a first pass on progression, the new keyboard controls, and tons of other little improvements.
I think this might be the one, this might FINALLY be the first demo that's actually pretty good.
========================================================
Post work edit: Ended up tooling with graphics WAY more than I planned. A good looking game is funny, as a game designer you don't want to think polished graphics are going to make your game more fun. BUT THEY DO! So you better friggin' polish your graphics! Some MSC other stuff too. Really happy with how everything is going.
