Early morning counter epiphany
Working in a bubble is the worst thing you can do. I was on a tear removing things from my game, every time I removed something, it seemed to make the game better. So when I ran my plans by a couple of my testers this morning, I expected them to say, Yeah take out that boring swap button! But actually they both unanimously were like, "no, we both really like being able to swap different fish type."
So that was awesome, I feel like I got days worth of work done by simply asking a simple question. Then I asked what they thought would make the game better and the unanimous feedback was that I need to make the world bigger. New zones, new music in those zones, some unique level design, and just a bigger world with more to explore. So that's the plan!
It's time I stop smashing my head against systems so much and gear up to make more content, but I'm going to try to be smarter about it this time, I'll be building things up in a sustainable and modular way, with smart constructions in unity to make things more fun for the end user, and easier to iterate and build upon as the designer.
