1 more day...
Bit more work done. I'm kinda overindulging in dev posts lately I think, but for the first time in a very long time, I feel like I'm 1 solid day's work away from making a new build. That's kinda crazy, haven't felt this close to a build in a very long time.
I got new, non boss varieties of NPC's that can drop every existing weapon type. I also on a whim got in an attack I've been meaning to make that is an alternative attack type for the shark bites, a new "blood sacrifice" bite that does 2x the damage, but sacrifices some of the player's health to execute (I actually just nerfed the old attack to do 1/2 the damage, but since no one plays the game, no one can complain about it!), had to add some new health sacrifice mechanics to the game, but it was pretty easy, I'm happy with the attack, the shark doesn't feel so much like you're just mindlessly tapping health back all the time, and now there's a play style where you can "live on the edge" so to speak. I also recently adjusted the charge rat on shark bites to be 1/2 speed, and to deal more damage, so the charge attack of sharks feels like much more of an investment and melee has a bit more nuance now. It's so nice to adjust existing mechanics for more gameplay depth without feeling as though I need to code in new crap all the time. The core systems are feeling pretty robust for a 1 man team. Really excited for the near future and bringing this all together.
Repeating myself for the billionth time, but it really is weird approaching what you believe is the all or nothing moment, where the game shows its potential or it doesn't... during most big events in your life there are these big celebrations, you share them with others, it feels "legitimate". Working in a cave day after day and nearing your build milestone feels a tad anti climactic, whatever. The game's probably going to suck anyway so it's fitting, but MAYBE NOT! I think it's come so far in the past few months... my mind just keeps racing around all the possibilities of the future, the idea of success and the decline reversing is so alien.
Not sure what's causing video capture to crash, but this is the second time recently when recording just seemed to shut off for no reason, oh well. Not a huge deal, but it's frustrating when I feel like I have a really good dev session and I'm working to ensure there's no breaks, and it's go go go for a few hours and it doesn't record it all. Important thing is the work got done!
To do:
Add quick item generation debug tools for each item type, and use those tools to finally do a large balance pass on all item mods and to create new unique items.
REALLY close now
